Summary: When a huge earthquake hits out west, the world learns that Yellowstone National Park’s supervolcano is set to erupt within days. Soon the world is put in a state of chaos as the ash sweeps the globe. Without sunlight and with the air too polluted to breathe, can anyone survive? Can also be found here on ff.net.
“Daddy, are we going to die?” Muffy asked at dinner. Since coming home from school, she’d worn masks for every second, but now it sat clumped in her hand as she ate dinner with her father.

Ed scowled at his daughter, “Of course not, Muffin. Your mother and I would never let anything happen to you or your brother. Chip is coming home, you know.”

Through the Storm

Summary: A storm of epic proportions is building in the Midwest and tearing eastward. As Lakewood’s third grade class heads to camp, this epic monstrosity comes barreling towards their home. Can anyone survive? Can also be found here on ff.net.

CHAPTER TWO

The storm was epic. That was the only way any newscaster could describe it, even the licensed meteorologists on The Weather Channel. A convergence of systems, three lows in total, meeting in the Midwest. The northern-most storms would ravage Minnesota and the upper peninsula of Michigan, while the lowest reaches would flood central Mexico, ravaging already poor neighborhoods and killing thousands. Such a thing happened in winter, systems stacking across the continent and reaching far south. But that was usually rain or snow, or a combination of both, not severe storms with more power than they had ever seen before.

The children of Elwood City woke up slowly, many of them not remembering the danger. Arthur squinted at the dim light coming through his window. He and Buster made the same mistake, hearing the rain and thinking they’d overslept before school.

Buster was flipping through a magazine when his mom came home from work. Bitzi didn’t say a word as she popped into the kitchen and shoved a frozen meal into the microwave, doing what the directions said without even reading them. She instinctively moved to the counter between the freezer and microwave where Buster’s trash sat untouched from his dinner several hours ago. The tired editor threw them in the trash without thinking.

Bitter Winds

Summary: Elwood City is in the middle of a vicious cold snap when the worst happens-Marinna Datillo goes missing. Her classmates are concerned for her welfare, but the city seems oblivious thanks to a new developer’s new tourist trap, which has barred local residents from entering. Marina’s friends think this author is involved, but would be that cruel?

The wind blew strong on the dark day as a bleak winter fell over Elwood City. Arthur and Fern stepped into the Sugar Bowl, bundled from head to toe. Inside, Marina and Buster sat at a back table. Though it was the furthest from the door, a bitter wind swept to the back of the restaurant.
